Following a huge amount of requests, Daz's Dailies #16 and #17 will be looking at the Order. More specifically, a fast way of painting NMM silver and gold which took me around 15 minutes to complete.
The following methods work really well if you have a group of models to paint, as you can complete each stage on the current model while the washes and glazes are drying on the previous miniature.
So, without further ado, we'll take a look at the silver armour! To achieve this effect I used an Infinity CR Plus Airbrush, Artist Opus brushes (1 and 0) and the following P3 paints: Thamar Black, Morrow White, Cygnar Blue Base, Sanguine Base.
After a black undercoat, dark grey is airbrushed over the entire model from around 45 degrees.
White is added to the grey and again the model is airbrushed from around 45 degrees, however, I'm concentrating this from the knees up to draw the viewers eye up the model.
More white is added to our previous mix and the model is highlighted from around 30 degrees concentrating on the waist up.
Final layer is pure white applied from two o'clock above the model. This is our purest source of light, from which all other highlights take their cue.
Edge highlights are applied with the edge of the brush using thinned down pure white.
A black wash (75% water 25% paint) is applied liberally to the armour area to add definition.
Edge highlights are once again applied with white. The highlights are now focused on the upper edges of the details.
Another black wash is applied to add separation.
Edge highlights are once again picked out in white. Small dots of white are placed on corner junctions to add a sparkle effect and then thin lines of white are painted on to simulate scratches and to break up big dull areas.
A glaze (90% water 10% paint) of Cygnar Base Blue is applied to tone the monochrome work so far. You can change this tone to suit the metal effect you're aiming for. Blue gives a nice steel effect.
A glaze of Sanguine Base is applied to the shadowed area to add visual interest and you're done!
